Day 1: December 28, 2024 - Machame Gate to Machame Camp
AAfter breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate (1,800m) where the trek begins. Following the registration process, you will start your hike through the dense rainforest. The path can be muddy and slippery, so trekking poles are recommended. Along the way, you will see a variety of flora and fauna unique to this region. After 5-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Machame Camp (3,000m), your first overnight stop. The camp offers stunning views and a chance to rest and acclimatize.
Day 2: December 29, 2024 - Machame Camp to Shira Camp
You will continue your ascent, leaving the rainforest behind as you enter the moorland zone. The path becomes steeper and rockier as you climb. After about 4-6 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira Camp (3,840m). The camp is located on a plateau and provides panoramic views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape. This day is crucial for acclimatization, and you will have time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Day 3: December 30, 2024 - Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Today's trek starts with a gentle hike towards the Lava Tower (4,630m), an important acclimatization point. After spending some time at the Lava Tower, you will descend into the Barranco Valley, surrounded by impressive cliffs and the famous Barranco Wall. The trek to Barranco Camp (3,960m) takes about 6-8 hours in total. This descent helps with acclimatization and prepares you for the days ahead. The camp is set in a beautiful valley with scenic views.
Day 4: December 31, 2024 - Barranco Camp to Barafu CampYou will start the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a challenging but non-technical scramble that provides some of the best views on the trek. Once at the top, you will traverse a series of valleys and ridges, passing the Karanga Valley before reaching Barafu Camp (4,640m) after 7-9 hours of trekking. At Barafu Camp, you will have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit attempt, which begins around midnight. The camp is exposed and can be cold, so dressing warmly is essential.
Day 5: January 1, 2025 - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Around midnight, you will start the final ascent to the summit. This is the most challenging part of the trek, as you climb steep switchbacks through the night, aiming to reach Stella Point (5,730m) at sunrise. From Stella Point, you will continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After taking in the incredible views and celebrating your achievement on New Year's Day, you will begin the descent to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,080m). This long and strenuous day will take about 12-15 hours of trekking.
Day 6: January 2, 2025 - Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
On your final day, you will continue your descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), which takes about 3-4 hours. Here, you will receive your summit certificates and meet your driver, who will transfer you back to Moshi. After a well-deserved shower and rest, you will have the option to explore Moshi town or simply relax at your hotel. In the evening, we will celebrate your success with a farewell dinner. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
